Zijin backs Ghana’s investment drive

Zijin Golden Ridge Limited (ZGRL), operator of the Akyem Mine in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region, has reaffirmed its commitment to Ghana’s economic growth and investment agenda through its partnership with the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), organisers of the 2026 Invest Ghana Summit and the 22nd Ghana Club 100 Awards .

The company announced the partnership at the official launch of the two flagship events in Accra. The event was attended by the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the GIPC, and other leaders from Ghana’s public and private sectors.

The Invest Ghana Summit provides a platform for investors, policymakers and business leaders to explore investment opportunities across key sectors of the economy, while the Ghana Club 100 Awards recognises and celebrates the country’s top-performing companies and their contributions to national development.

ZGRL said its partnership with the events reflects its confidence in Ghana’s investment potential and its commitment to creating long-term value through responsible mining, local employment, procurement, environmental stewardship and community development.

In 2025, the company generated more than GH¢7 billion in direct economic value, including GH¢1.41 billion in taxes and royalties paid to the state and GH¢4.19 billion spent on goods and services from Ghanaian suppliers and service providers.

The company said the expenditure supported local businesses and strengthened value chains across the country.

The Akyem Mine currently supports 1,235 direct jobs, while 597 people from its ten host communities are employed either directly by the company or through contractors.

Speaking at the launch, the Vice President for Sustainability and External Relations at ZGRL, Jason Zhang, said the company’s participation underscored its confidence in Ghana’s future as a competitive and attractive investment destination.

He noted that the company’s experience at Akyem demonstrated how responsible investment could create jobs, strengthen local businesses, generate government revenue and contribute to national development.

Mr. Zhang also highlighted the company’s environmental initiatives, including a partnership with the Forestry Commission through which it has restored 317 hectares of land, representing more than three times the area directly affected by mining activities.

He added that ZGRL was implementing what it described as Ghana’s first large-scale biodiversity offset programme in the mining sector through a ten-year conservation partnership in the Atiwa landscape, aimed at protecting and restoring critical ecosystems and wildlife habitats.

As part of efforts to reduce emissions and promote cleaner mining technologies, the company has also introduced 46 new-energy haul trucks, many of which are fully electric.
