UESD ORGANIZES A TWO-DAY STAKEHOLDERS’ CONSULTATIVE MEETING ON AGRO WASTE AND AQUACULTURE CURRICULA DEVELOPMENT
The University of Environment and Sustainable Development, UESD, Somanya, has organized a two-day stakeholders’ consultative meeting on curricula development for one of their postgraduate programmes in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital.
The meeting is to help validate the curricula, identify job prospects and research gaps, and also develop an industry-centered postgraduate programme in their Master of Science, MSc, Master of Philosophy, MPhil and Doctor of Philosophy, PhD programme in Agro Waste and Aquaculture Curricula, which is under the Nkabom Nutrition and Sustainable Agri-Food Collaborative Project.

The stakeholders meeting organized by UESD brought together people in academia, industry players, and government and non-government agencies. They include the Environmental Protection Agency, Ghana Fisheries Commission, Ghana Canoe Fishermen Association, Africa Environmental Sanitation Consult, National Fisheries Association of Ghana, Ghana Standard Authority, Association of Ghana Industries, researchers, and professors, among others.


They had a discussion and review of the MSc, MPhil, and PhD in Agrifood Systems and Bioresources Curricula, MSc, MPhil and PhD in Aquaculture Technology Curricula, and MSc, MPhil, and PhD in Blue Economy and Aquatic Science Curricula.
In an interview with sunrisefmonline.com, the Vice Chancellor of UESD and the Principal Investigator of the Project, Professor Eric Nyarko-Sampson, underscored the importance of industry players and academia in developing industry-centered academic programmes, hence, the need for the stakeholders’ consultative meeting. He emphasized that the idea is to bring the industry players who have in-depth knowledge in the field to seek their inputs to help develop an industry-centered postgraduate programme.

Some industry players shared the critical role their industries and agencies will play to help UESD develop an industry-centered postgraduate programme to produce graduates with the in-depth industry knowledge and technical know-how in the field. The stakeholders commended the Management of UESD for organizing such a stakeholders’ consultative meeting to seek their inputs to help develop an industry-centered postgraduate programme.
