SDA College Of Education Matriculates 450 Students; as Principal urges students to uphold integrity, discipline and academic excellence

The SDA College of Education at Asokore-Koforidua in the Eastern Region has matriculated 450 students for the 2026/2027 academic year.

The newly admitted students comprise 118 males and 332 females, with 71 enrolled in the Department of Early Grade Education, 132 in the Department of Primary Education and 247 in the Department of Junior High School (JHS) Education.

The ceremony, which marked the college's 21st matriculation, was presided over by the Principal, Professor Vincent Adzahlie-Mensah, who challenged the fresh students to recognise the important role they will play in shaping the future of education in Ghana.

Professor Adzahlie-Mensah reminded the students that their conduct and professional standards would have a lasting influence on the learners they would eventually teach.

He urged them to make integrity, discipline, reputation, professionalism and service the guiding principles of their academic and professional lives.

"Always remember that the quality of teachers you become will shape the quality of learners you teach. Your character must therefore reflect the values and standards of this institution," he advised.

The Principal, who was recently elected President of the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education in Ghana (PRINCOF), also encouraged the students to take their academic responsibilities seriously and strive for excellence throughout their training.

Professor Adzahlie-Mensah cautioned the matriculants against relying on last-minute preparations to achieve academic success.

He stressed that excellence required commitment, discipline and consistent effort.

"Academic excellence is not achieved through last-minute efforts. It comes through consistent learning, careful planning, regular practice and the willingness to learn from your mistakes," he said.

The Principal said the college was committed to improving the quality of education and the overall experience of students and staff through investments in human resource development, infrastructure, spiritual growth and financial stability.

He also highlighted ongoing projects aimed at improving healthcare and the general well-being of students and staff.

According to him, these initiatives form part of the institution's broader efforts to create an enabling environment for teaching, learning and professional development.

The matriculants subsequently took the matriculation oath, administered by the Registrar of the College, Mr Ransford Paintsil, formally admitting them into the institution.

The ceremony attracted traditional leaders, members of the college's governing council, management and staff, as well as church leaders.

Among the dignitaries present were the President of the East Ghana Conference, Pastor Ernest Ofosu, and his officers, and the President of the South Ghana Union Mission, Pastor Col. Peter Nyarko Duodu (Rtd).

In a prayer for the newly admitted students, Pastor Nyarko Duodu urged them to remain law-abiding and conduct themselves in ways that would bring honour to the institution, the Seventh-day Adventist Church and Ghana.

"I urge you to be law-abiding citizens and worthy ambassadors of this college, the Seventh-day Adventist Church and the country as a whole," he entreated the students.

The 21st matriculation ceremony formally ushers the 450 students into their teacher education journey, with a charge to combine academic excellence with strong moral values and professional responsibility.
