Residents of Koforidua-Apenkwa lament over poor state of inner roads.
Residents of Apenkwa, a suburb of Koforidua, in the New Juaben South Municipality, have expressed concern over the poor condition of roads in the community.
Speaking to GBC News, the residents said the deplorable state of the inner roads has made transportation difficult, as most commercial drivers have stopped plying the route.
They said the few drivers who continue to serve the community often drop passengers on the main road, forcing them to walk considerable distances to their homes.
According to the residents, the situation also means they have to board two vehicles to and from work, significantly increasing their daily transportation expenses.
They described Apenkwa as a serene and comfortable community to live in, but said the high cost and difficulty of commuting are draining a significant portion of their incomes.
The residents also expressed concern about their safety, particularly at night, as some drivers drop them off along the road instead of taking them into the community.
Some residents said they will gladly relocate to alternative accommodation closer to their workplaces if such options were made available, as the current transportation challenges have become a major burden.
The growing population of Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital, is making it increasingly difficult for residents to secure accommodation in their preferred locations.
