President Mahama nominates and reassigns Ministers of State

President John Dramani Mahama has reshuffled some of his Ministers of State, nominating two Members of Parliament to new ministerial portfolios and reassigning two ministers.

The changes form part of a ministerial reshuffle under President Mahama’s administration.

According to a statement from the Presidency issued on Friday, August 7, 2026, the MP for Klottey Korle Constituency, Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, has been nominated as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology.

The President has also nominated the Majority Leader and MP for Bawku Central Constituency, Mahama Ayariga, as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

The nominations come as the two portfolios became vacant following the deaths of the former substantive ministers.

The former Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, and the former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, were among eight people who died in a military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on August 6, 2025.

As part of the reshuffle, the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Defense.

Kenneth Gilbert Adjei is not new to the Defense Ministry, having previously served as Deputy Minister for Defense from May 2015 to January 2017 under the first administration of President John Dramani Mahama.

The MP for Banda Constituency and Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has also been reassigned to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.

In accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution, President Mahama has submitted the nominations to Parliament through the Speaker for prior approval.

The changes are subject to parliamentary approval before the nominees formally assume their respective portfolios.
