President Mahama makes further ministerial changes

President John Dramani Mahama has made further changes to his government, reassigning three officials to new roles with immediate effect.

Under the latest changes, Dr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, Member of Parliament for Wa Central in the Upper West Region, has been reassigned from the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Job Creation to serve as Minister of State for Special Initiatives.

Dr. Pelpuo has been the MP for Wa Central since 2005 and has previously served in several government positions, including Minister of State at the Office of the President, Minister for Youth and Sports, and Minister of State in charge of Private Sector Development and Public-Private Partnerships under the previous Mahama administration.

He will be replaced at the Labour Ministry by Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, the Member of Parliament for Nkoranza South in the Bono East Region.

Mr Agyekum was previously the Minister of State for Special Initiatives, the position he held before taking over the Labour, Employment and Job Creation portfolio.

He also brings previous experience in local and central government. Mr Agyekum served as Municipal Chief Executive of Nkoranza South from 2009 to 2013 and later served as Deputy Minister of Local Government.

The President has also reassigned Ernest Brogya Genfi from his position as Deputy Minister for Defence to serve as Presidential Advisor on National Resilience and Emergency Preparedness.

Mr. Genfi was appointed Deputy Minister for Defence in March 2025 and has also served as Board Chairman of the Defence Industries Holding Company Limited, DIHOC, of the Ministry of Defence.

The reassignments take immediate effect.

This is the second ministerial reshuffle of President Mahama’s current second term after the first was announced on August 7, 2026.
