Pojoss names road after Late Dr. Edward Omane Boamah
The Catholic Bishop of the Koforidua Diocese, Most Rev. Joseph Afrifah-Agyekum, has led the official naming and commissioning of the Omane Boamah Crescent at Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary, POJOSS, at Effiduase in the New Juaben North Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The 0.5-kilometre road forms part of the asphalted stretch leading to the school and the St. Joseph Orthopedic Hospital, rehabilitated by the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, ahead of the school's 67th anniversary celebrations last year.
Speaking at the event, he said the late Dr. Omane Boamah, an old student of POJOSS, supported the school in its infrastructure development and contributed significantly to its growth and advancement.
The Catholic Bishop prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the late Defence Minister and the seven other persons who died in the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash. Most Rev. Afrifah-Agyekum added that the decision to name the road after the late Dr. Omane Boamah is symbolic because roads lead people to a destination, just as the late statesman's life reflected a path of discipline, excellence, service to the nation and commitment to giving back to society.
The Headmaster of POJOSS, Very Rev. Fr. Benjamin Opoku Ohene, said the life of the late Dr. Omane Boamah demonstrates that every student of POJOSS has the potential to rise to the highest offices of the country in service to the nation.
He urged the current students of the school to emulate the late Defence Minister's discipline, dedication and commitment to excellence.
The family representative of the late Defence Minister, Charles Ohene Oti, expressed profound gratitude to the school authorities and the POJOSS community for honouring his memory and preserving his legacy through the road naming.
The ceremony also featured the commissioning of a renovated and re-tooled kitchen facility by the 2001 POJOBA Year Group.
The upgraded facility has been fitted with LPG gas and industrial cooking equipment to reduce cooking time, improve the health and safety of kitchen staff by eliminating prolonged exposure to smoke from firewood, and ease the physical strain associated with preparing large quantities of food.
In addition, Most Rev. Joseph Afrifah-Agyekum commissioned the newly refurbished Dr. Adu-Sarkodee Basketball Court, renovated by the 2016 POJOBA Year Group, to provide students with an improved sporting facility and promote sports development and physical fitness in the school.
