Miss Koforidua Flower is more than a beauty pageant -Aku Dzameshie
The 2009 winner of Miss Koforidua Flower beauty pageant and Chief Executive Officer, CEO of Hausa Tours Regina Aku Dzameshie has noted that the Miss Koforidua beauty pageant is not just a platform for contestants to show their beauty but also a platform where potentials are unearthed, nurtured and shaped into success.
Speaking on GBC Sunrise FM ahead of the launch of the 2026 Miss Koforidua Flower contest, she stated that the initiative seeks to inculcate in the contestants Ghanaian culture and values. Miss Dzameshie spelled out the opportunities that contestants stand to get.
"I want them to know that it is not only formal education that can take one far. There are many opportunities in the programmes that form part of the beauty pageant. Many past contestants have created their own jobs after the contest through the entrepreneurship programme. Last year one lady produced a branded tom brown and it has become her livelihood" Dzameshie noted. She added, "today during our meeting with the Eastern Regional minister, one of the ladies opened up on her challenge to the minister and she directed her assistant to help her out. This is one of the numerous opportunities"
The Chief Executive Officer CEO, of MD Events, Vorleto Makafui reiterated the role the contest will play in imparting knowledge of Ghanaian culture on the contestants, adding that the contestants will be taught the history of the various communities in New Juaben.
Nine contestants from communities within Koforidua are contesting in this year's edition after undergoing successful auditioning.
It will feature a cultural night, street fashion, entrepreneurship programme , and Koforidua voice.
Miss Koforidua beauty pageant was discontinued after the 2009 contest and was revived last year to sustain its legacy.
Originally it was Koforidua Flowers, a stereotype that Koforidua women are beautiful and it was deliberately transitioned to "Miss Koforidua Flower" a beauty pageant that promote Ghanaian culture particularly New Juaben culture while empowering young women in Koforidua.
It is organised by MD Events, in collaboration with Hausa Tours
