Government to construct 10 new mini stadiums across Ghana
Government is set to construct ten new mini stadiums across the country as part of efforts to improve sporting infrastructure and create better opportunities for the development of football and other sports.
The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, disclosed this at the 32nd Ordinary Congress of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) held at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
Mr. Adams said the Finance Minister has issued commencement authorization for the projects, with the process of awarding contracts currently underway.
He said contractors are expected to move to site soon, adding that the facilities will provide footballers and other athletes with better spaces to develop their talents.
The Minister stressed that government’s investment in football must go beyond keeping the sport alive and should instead create the conditions for sustainable growth.
Mr. Adams also challenged football clubs to explore new ways of generating revenue and strengthening their relationships with supporters.
He urged clubs to develop shops and online platforms where supporters can purchase replica jerseys, scarves, training wear, retro shirts and other club merchandise.
According to him, clubs must also turn their history and heritage into commercial assets by developing museums, trophy experiences, heritage stores, archival documentaries and programmes celebrating club legends.
“History kept in the cupboard has cultural value, but history properly curated can also have commercial value,” he said.
Mr. Adams further urged clubs to use content such as player stories, statistics, rivalries, academy activities, club history and behind-the-scenes features to keep supporters engaged.
He explained that effective content creation can generate attention, build audiences, create commercial opportunities and attract sponsorship for clubs.
Mr. Adams said the same approach must extend beyond the Premier League to the lower divisions and Colts football, stressing that the country’s top division cannot become strong on the foundation of a weak football system.
He therefore called for a stronger football pyramid in which development at the lower levels supports the growth of the professional game.
