GACL dismisses two airport car park workers over passenger extortion allegations
The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has dismissed two car park attendants at the Accra International Airport following complaints that they allegedly demanded money from passengers .
The action is part of measures by the airport operator to tackle misconduct, improve accountability and enhance the travel experience for passengers. GACL Managing Director, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, disclosed this when Parliament’s Committee on Roads and Transportation visited the airport on Tuesday. She said the company acted after receiving multiple reports from travellers and identifying the individuals involved. “Just about two weeks ago, we’ve had two people expelled from the airport in the car park workers who asked passengers for money. And instantly, because we were able to identify and zero in on the specific people, we were able to have them leave the airport immediately,” she said. Mrs Opare urged the public to continue reporting incidents of extortion and other inappropriate conduct by airport workers to help the company take prompt action. “We are asking the general public to help us address these issues,” she added. She assured travellers that GACL remains committed to maintaining high service standards and ensuring that passengers experience a safe, efficient and professional environment at Ghana’s main international airport. The dismissal of the two workers adds to ongoing efforts by GACL to strengthen oversight and eliminate practices that undermine passenger confidence and service delivery. Source: Gbcghanaonline
