Eastern Regional minister pitches Eastern Region as leading destination for trade, tourism and investments

The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey has pitched the Eastern Region as the leading destination for trade, tourism and investment in Ghana.

Justifying her remark during the launch of the maiden edition of the Eastern Expo held in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital, she noted that the Region is endowed with fertile land, abundant natural resources and tourist attractions, citing Boti falls, Akosombo Dam, and Aburi Botanical Gardens, among others as examples. 

The maiden edition of the Eastern Expo 2026 themed, Unlocking Opportunities for Sustainable Trade, Tourism and Investment, aims to promote enterprise development, attract investments, strengthen strategic partnerships and accelerate economic development in the Eastern Region. 

It was attended by traditional rulers, staff of the Eastern Region Coordinating Council, ERCC, Ghana Union of Traders Association, GUTA, Ghana Export Promotion Authority, GEPA and others. 

In her address, the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey stated that the initiative aligns with the government's flagship programme, the 24 Hour Economy that seeks to create jobs, increase productivity and maximise the use of the country's infrastructure. 

She noted that trade is one of the greatest catalysts for economic transformation through which many nations have progressed economically by creating platforms that link producers to markets, innovators to investors, and governments to strategic partners. 

Mrs Awatey highlighted the government's projects in the Eastern Region which aim to stimulate economic growth in the Region. 

"The government under the leadership of his excellency President John Dramani Mahama is making deliberate investments in Eastern Region. These projects include the Afram river bridge, the construction of the first pilot Farmers Services Centre in the Kwahu-Afram Plains, the proposed Food and Beverages Industry Park, the commencement of the construction of the 24 hour model markets in the 33 assemblies in the Eastern Region."

The Chief Director of RCC, Ebenezer Amoah noted that the initiative seeks to stimulate businesses across Agriculture, Tourism, Construction and General Trading within and outside Ghana.

He urged businesses in the Eastern Region to brand their products.

The President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs and Konor of Manya Krobo Traditional Area, Nene Sakite also pitched the Eastern Region as the best place for investments. 

He added that the initiative is an effort to promote businesses and investment activities in the Eastern Region urging residents in the Eastern Region to pitch the Region to investors. 

Businesses in the Region were advised to leverage the region's position as the stronghold of the country's Agriculture, tourism and trade.
