Eastern Region Intensifies HPV vaccination for girls aged nine to fourteen

The Eastern Regional Deputy Director of Public  Health Moses Barimah Djimatey has urged parents,  school authorities and communities leaders to avail young girls between nine and fourteen years for vaccination against the Humanpapillomavirus, HPV.  

Speaking to the media in Koforidua , the Eastern Regional capital ahead of the intensified HPV vaccination exercise aimed at increasing the immunization coverage in the Region he stated that the exercise will be conducted in two phases with phase one beginning on Monday twenty-eighth of September to Friday Second October 2026 while the second phase runs from Monday twenty-third November to Friday twenty-seventh November 2026. 

He noted that cervical cancer remains important public health concern for women, adding that the most effective way of preventing the disease is to vaccinate young girls against the HPV before they become exposed to the virus. 

Dr. Djimatey noted that the vaccine represents an important investment in the future health and wellbeing of young girls and women. 

He assured the public that the vaccine is safe, effective and provided for free through the national immunization programme.

"Our responsibility as a sector is to ensure that every eligible girl has the opportunity to receive this important protection. As part of our efforts to strengthen routine immunization, the Ghana Health Service will conduct the routine exercise focusing on the HPV vaccination for eligible girls who may have missed the vaccination or require additional opportunity to access the service." He stated

He  charged the media to publish accurate information concerning the vaccination before, during and after the exercise, adding that they should use their platforms to disabuse the minds of the public of misconception, myth and misinformation about the HPV vaccine.
