Birim North DCE supports 680 BECE candidates with school items

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Birim North in the Eastern Region, Abdul Hakeem Antwi, has supported 680 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates with essential school items to help ease their transition into Senior High School (SHS).

The beneficiaries, drawn from 25 schools across the district, each received a school bag, 10 exercise books, a pillow and a bucket.

The initiative, implemented under the District Chief Executive’s Support Programme, is aimed at supporting students as they prepare to begin the next phase of their education.

The beneficiaries were from the New Abirem, Mamanso, Old Abirem and Afosu clusters of schools.

Mr. Antwi commended the students for their performance in the just-ended BECE, describing the intervention as part of the District Assembly’s broader efforts to promote quality, accessible and equitable education in the Birim North District.

He said the initiative was also in line with President John Mahama’s vision of developing Ghana’s human capital and ensuring that no child is left behind.

According to him, the items would help the beneficiaries begin their academic journey with dignity and confidence.

He added that the donation demonstrated the Assembly’s commitment to investing in education and building a brighter future for young people in the district.

A student of the New Abirem D/A Islamic Model School, Sarah Kotoka Selasie, who was the only candidate in the district to obtain Aggregate 6, expressed gratitude to her parents, teachers and all those who contributed to her success.

She also encouraged fellow students to remain focused and committed to their education as they progress to the next level.

In all, 49 students in the district obtained single-digit aggregates.

The figure comprised one student with Aggregate 6, four with Aggregate 7, 10 with Aggregate 8 and 34 with Aggregate 9.
