Asokore SDA College of Education commissions two new students’ halls
The Seventh Day of Adventist, SDA, College of Education at Asokore in the Eastern Region has commissioned and dedicated two new students' halls built at a cost of eight million Ghana cedis to address accommodation challenges and improve living conditions on campus.
The two-storey halls, named after two distinguished former Principals of the College, Rose Owusu-Kakra and Charles Kuma-Korante, have the capacity to accommodate about eight hundred students, significantly reducing congestion in the existing halls of residence.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Principal of the College, Prof. Vincent Adzahlie-Mensah, said construction of the facilities began about five years ago but got stalled alongside. He explained that upon assuming office in 2024, management made it a priority to complete the project to meet the growing accommodation needs of the increasing student population.
Prof. Adzahlie-Mensah disclosed that the projects were financed entirely through the College's Internally Generated Funds, IGF. He reaffirmed management's commitment to improving students' welfare and appealed to stakeholders, philanthropists and alumni to support the College's infrastructure development agenda.
“I just want the people of Ghana to know that as a college we take our IGF seriously and we try to invest it in ways that can support government’s expenditure and investment in Colleges of Education. Whoever you are or wherever you are, please help contribute to build the SDA College of Education at Asokore and make it a place of excellence,” he appealed.
The President of the South-East Ghana Union Mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Pastor Colonel Peter Nyarko Duodu Rtd, commended the College's management for successfully completing the projects. He assured the institution of the Church's continued support to promote quality teacher education and infrastructure development.
“I am glad your IGF are being used for the right purpose and so as a Church we will do all we can to support the school,” he assured
The Chairman of the College Council, Pastor Dr. Thomas Techie Ocran, urged students to maintain the new facilities and uphold discipline to enhance the image and reputation of the College.
The decision to name the halls after Charles Kuma-Korante and Rose Owusu-Kakra was in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the institution.
Mr. Kuma-Korante was the longest-serving Principal of the College and played a pivotal role in its growth and development.
Mad. Owusu-Kakra was the first female Principal and spearheaded several infrastructure projects that transformed the institution during her tenure.
With the College's student population now standing at about one thousand, 400, existing residential facilities had become overstretched, making the completion of the new halls a critical intervention.
The halls were officially unveiled and dedicated by the President of the South-East Ghana Union Mission of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, SDA, Pastor Colonel Peter Nyarko Duodu Rtd.
