Akuapem Traditional Council launches 2026 Odwira, assures security for this year's festival

The Akuapem Traditional Council has assured residents and visitors that comprehensive security arrangements have been put in place ahead of this year's Odwira Festival. 

Speaking at a media briefing in Akropong in the Eastern Region, the Vice Chairman of the 2026 Odwira Festival Planning Committee, Nana Opare Kwafo, said the safety and security of all participants remain one of the council's highest priorities.

He explained that the Traditional Council is working closely with the relevant security agencies to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for residents, visitors and guests from across Ghana and around the world throughout the celebration.

He assured every visitor and participant that adequate measures have been put in place to guarantee their safety during the festival. 

Nana Opare Kwafo also urged the public to cooperate fully with security personnel and festival officials by observing all guidelines and regulations.

He further disclosed that the planning committee has successfully undertaken a unity tour of all the divisional towns within Akuapem, where they witnessed a strong spirit of unity, hospitality and a shared commitment to preserving the area's cultural heritage. 

Nana Opare Kwafo also encouraged patrons attending this year's festival to dress modestly in honour of the historic occasion.

The 2026 Odwira Festival, scheduled for September, will mark 200 years since the Katamanso War, making this year's celebration a significant milestone in the history of the Akuapem people.
